Calling Dr Spook

The Fourth Child

What is it about the fourth child? The
y seem to be born wiser than the rest with a knowledge of everything! They gain this knowledge because unlike your first child they seem to be able to access everything that they want. They are opinionated and believe everything should be at their disposal now ,with a favorite catch cry “I need more”......My husband and I talk constantly about reining in this behaviour but we are fighting a losing battle against our older 3 children who give in to the Littlest Princess just to get a minute of their peace!

Help Help Help the terrible twos have only just begun.

Satisfaction

What a week it's been! As I am busily rushing to get our stock into our first retail stores it's hard to resist being very excited.
I love our product and the retail party skirts are truly my favorite.
Today whilst standing in one of our first retail stores (OUR PLACE Beecroft) with skirts on hangers in my hand a 3 year old rushed up to me and brushed her hand across the layers of flounce, the smile when she realised how soft it felt was magical. Lucky for that little girl she was shopping with grandma who naturally purchased.

Off to sort out more stock now, with a smile on my face.

Below another very lucky little girl, Audrey ... trying out one of our retail range.

Rain Rain go away!

As I'm busy preparing new stock for tomorrows market at Mosman, I am hoping the rain I can hear slowing tapping above will go away.  Do you think this means more sun than rain, I hope so !

Bookclubs...

Oh I've just come home from a night at my bookclub. I love my bookclub, but possibly not for the same reason a lot of other people love going to bookclub. My bookclub is a little bit on the casual side you could say! But hey, what's wrong with that?

There's usually between 5- 10 of us on any given month. We have dinner/drinks at a local pub. We laugh (a  lot), chat (even more) & sometimes we briefly discuss the book we have (or haven't) read! I try to read the book - well most months I try, but sometimes I just don't get there! And you know what, no one in our bookclub judges!!

I try to set a few rules ... no books about war, murder, crime, sick children, illness, death, or anything set in the 1800's! Every month I say "Let's read something light, fluffy & romantic" I never win but it's worth a try!
So what's so good about my bookclub you ask? Well it's all about getting together with my special friends, laughing, chatting, eating & drinking. All the important things in life. And it's a little bit of time-out, which we all need.

This month's book is

ADVENTURES IN CARAVANASTAN
Around Australia in 80ks

by Greg Bearup

Everyone should start up or join a bookclub. It can be serious or casual. What ever tickles your fancy!

Parties, holidays and online shopping!

I can't believe how quickly October is flying by! My princess turned 1 yesterday & I find it frightening to think how quickly this year has flown. Of couse she had a special flounce made for her Birthday & I am hoping somebody got a photo of her in it! I got one on the swing but you can't see the gorgeous patterned top on it! (and at this point she was rather exhausted!) I must say our flounces are very durable. It survived the day in the park beautifully, and believe me it was definately dragged around.. Ruby was a little overwhelmed by the whole Birthday Party experience & we all had a rather early night last night.

I have searched through lots of websites over the last few weeks, which has been lots of fun, looking for girls gifts. It's such a nice change after spending years looking for boys pressies. I thought I would share a couple of them with you.

http://www.mymessyroom.com.au/
http://www.littlebubbleandtree.com/
http://www.littlepinwheel.com.au/

Check them out - I always love it when I find a great new website. Sometimes it's nice to buy online rather than in shops as quite often you find something a little bit different. And let's face it, quite often it's a lot easier! Sgrab a cuppa , sit down in front of the computer & shop! And while you're there naturally you should check out http://www.flounceabout.com/

Only a few days left ( and a 9 year olds birthday party tomorrow!) until school goes back and then the focus will return to the flounces. I've loved the holidays, no uniforms, lunches or homework!

We are at Mosman Festival on Sunday 25th which will be great. I hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

We're back!!

Wow, where have the last few weeks gone! It's been so busy with sales & markets that unfortunately the blog has suffered a bit. But I'm back now & ready to let you know what's happening with our flounces!

We are currently making a few changes/improvements to our website & it should be all up & running in the newer format very soon. We are expanding our site to include more information about our flounces and where you can see them and purchase them.

We have joined The Great Kids Fashion Hunt which begins in November through Kids Fashion Review. What a great website & idea. Make sure you check it out when you get a chance. http://www.kidsfashionreview.com/ and look out for flounce about.

We have also advertised on Bondville which I mentioned in an earlier blog. I love this site - Steph does a great job promoting quality Australian made products. Of course, being Australian designed and made is one of the things that makes our flounces so unique.

We have a section on our website which lists which upcoming markets we will be at - Mosman last Saturday was so wet that we decided we wouldn't even get the skirts out of the car! Sunday at St Ives was great. We managed to get a spot indoors & the day was a big success. We are travelling to Canberra in November for the Mathilda's Market which will be fantastic. We're looking forward to introducing our range to the people of Canberera & hopefully they'll love our flounces as much as Sydneysiders do.

We are also in the process of getting a retail range ready which is very exciting, and will keep you updated on our website & through our blog of our new stockists once everything is completed.

Well, fingers crossed the weather in Sydney starts improving for the school holidays and hopefully everyone has a great week.

The Party Focus

Let's focus on our party flounce for a moment. What more could any girl wish for - frilly, flouncy, twirl-factor, and in any colour combintion you like. And then double all that cause they're reversible!

Our party flounces are a dream come true for any "girly" girls out there. (And don't despair Mum's because we make them in grown up sizes too. As a matter of fact I have just finished cutting a black adults princess flounce afternoon.).

Our party flounces are absolutely perfect for any girls celebrating their Birthday. Just imagine, you could reverse it half way through the party & everyone would think you were in a new outfit! Let's face it, given the option, we adults would love a change of outfit halfway through a night out!!

Check out our best selling party flounces on our website. If you can't find the colour combo you love, we'll make one up for you - http://www.flounceabout.com/

With this gorgeous weather we are experiencing at the moment you should check out an Australian website called made for sundays. made for sundays is a boutique Australian brand of boys and girls swimwear that is designed to be fashionable, comfortable and offer excellent UV sun protection to delicate young skin. Just what every little one needs with summer fast  approaching. Have a look at their website, you'll love it - http://www.madeforsundays.com.au/

Well, back to the cutting board for me!

A Very "Springy" Sunday

What gorgeous Spring weather Sydney is delivering to us at the moment. I love this time of year - the kids can spend their days playing outside (which let's face it is always a good thing!).

My kids spend their lives playing cricket/rugby/anything that involves a ball really! My little Princess has just gone down for a sleep or she would want to be out there too. The boys have worked out if they place her in her car, behind their big cricket net then she's safe from flying balls. I suppose you have to learn to keep yourself safe when you have 3 big brothers!

Cassandra is at the Corpus Christi Spring Fair today at St Ives - a warm day for her! The flounces are definately keeping us very busy. Both our houses are covered in frills which is a good thing - although the 7 males we live with (between us that is!) may not think so.

I am loving this blogging. I have found a few great blogs to follow which I think I should share with you. Last night I found one at http://www.stephbond.com/ . I found it through Kids Fashion Review which I joined (another great site - ). I haven't had a chance to read through the whole blog but it looks great. Check it out when you get a chance.

Anyway, I'm off to spend this gorgeous day with my family. We have added new flounces to our site so check it out - http://www.flounceabout.com/

Our Black Princess

We are making some of our princess flounces with a spotted or floral cotton waistband which looks gorgeous. I think our "black princess" teamed with leggings, a singlet or tee and a denim jacket would look especially groovy for those 8-12 year olds. We have cerise, red, pale pink & mint green in stock too with the cotton tops.

Of course all our party flounces have cotton tops & are reversible. Perfect for fussy princesses - now we can give them a choice!

Wednesday's Edition

Wow, I can't believe we're already half way through this week. We've been busy cutting & sewing more skirts for this weekend. flounce about is heading to St Ives on Sunday. We're going to be at the Corpus Christi Spring Fair. The address details are on our website - http://www.flounceabout.com/

Well the weather in Sydney at the moment is perfect for flounces. I've started digging through my wardrobe looking for some summery clothes myself. Mind you, I don't want to pack the winter woolies away just yet cause that colder weather could come back!

My little princess had one of her "princess flounces" on the other day (just toddling around the school playground mind you!) with some huggalugs legruffles. She looked gorgeous. I'm going to get her a few more pairs of huggalugs to go with her assortment of flounces! They are very cute & take me back many years to when I wore leg warmers. I still remember my favourite hot pink pair! The flounces look very cute over skinny leg jean & footless tights too.

I had a good read through Issue 1 of SHOP girl magazine last night. It's the tween version of SHOP 4 kids. Great magazine with loads of gorgeous fashion & accessories. Make sure you grab one. We'll have to do our best to get our flounces in there!!

Anyway, best get back to my sewing!

a new flouncy website

Well, our website is up and running. We are a little low on stock after a busy weekend but all products should be up by the end of this week. We would love some feedback on our website so please check it out & let us know what you think - http://www.flounceabout.com/

We learnt from our Market on Saturday that every Child/Mum looks for different things in a flounce. That is one thing that sets our flounces apart from any other pettiskirt-style skirts on the market, we offer all sorts of colours & colour combinations to suit everyone. Whatever you want, we can create!

So this week holds lots more flouncing for us. We will be able to let you know in the next day or so, where we will be this weekend.

So, flouncing off for now,

Kate

The "flounce" hits Mosman

What a great day we had at Mosman Markets today. There are a lot of little princesses running around Sydney now in flounces.

It was a gorgeous sunny day & we had such fun.

We had our gorgeous (adult) model, Ness wearing a very cute navy princess flounce & had lots of enquiries for flounces from "grown ups". It looked fabulous teamed with striped leggings & ballet flats.

So we'll definately be back at Mosman next month & will let you know where we are between now & then.

Our website (although a little depleted after today) is up & running. go to http://www.flounceabout.com/ & let us know what you think.

Happy Father's Day to all those Daddy's out there for tomorrow.

flouncing in the rain

Well what started out as a gorgeous Spring day has certainly changed. The rain has arrived - but will hopefully disappear by Saturday for our Market @ Mosman. We're really excited and madly running around cutting & sewing.

It's so lovely that Spring has come, perfect weather for flouncing about. Our range has some gorgeous colours in it - pinks(of course), aqua, red, cerise & mint. And the fabrics that we've used on the waistbands & accessories are beautiful. There should be a flounce to suit everyone. And if there's not, we'll make one.

We've been working on a few accessories to go with our flounces including appliqued tees, headbands, hairclips & brooches which we will have at the Market.

Our website is nearly done & should hopefully be up and running by tomorrow. the address is http://www.flounceabout.com/ so please visit it & let us know what you think.

Flouncing off for now,

Kate

a long day!

Wow what a day - between cutting skirts, organising fabrics & colours & then ofcourse getting 3 boys to all their different activities, whilst dragging a little princess around, I feel like today has been a very long day!

I now have to sit down tonight & focus on our website & this blog too.

Things are getting exciting now & we're doing last minute organisation for Mosman Markets on the 5th & the website launch.

I now have to work out how to get followers for my blog & twitter page!! There are so many great site to check out when you join twitter. I'm feeling very new to all this. And it's taking up lots of time - but it's fun.

Anyway, bye for now,

Kate

flounce about... dress ups for everyday — our blog

Welcome to our first blog. What a crazy few weeks it has been - so busy.

We are in the process of getting our website finished and it should be up and running in the next day or so hopefully.
We have so many ideas for products that we are trying to start with a couple of styles in lots of colour choices, cause we all know how fussy and particular little girls can be with their clothes!! However, we will of course be adding to our styles in the future.

We will be at Mosman Markets in Sydney on September 5th, hopefully you'll pop in and visit us.

So, where did our "flounce" come from? It came from our daughters Ruby & Audrey. Ruby is approaching her 1st Birthday & Audrey's 2nd Birthday is coming up. We were on the lookout for a pettiskirt with a difference. When we couldn't find exactly what we were looking for we decided to make/design our own. And so the "flounce" was born.

As you will see, our flounces are unique and quite different to anything else on the market. They are not pettiskirts, although we do have some of those, they are not tutus, although maybe they'll be added at some stage, they are flounces. And you'll need to check out our website to see why they are so special!

As you will come to discover from our blog, Cassandra & I (Kate) are very different. Cassandra is very creative & clever at designing and actually making up our ideas. I on the other hand have millions of ideas, but need Cassandra to create them! Cassandra has a background in Design & I have a Retail background. So together we work really well.

We both have 4 children each. Cassandra has 2 girls & 2 boys. I have 3 boys and then our little princess. So we're busy, but we're loving what we are doing. And we hope you do too.

Please look out for our website http://www.flounceabout.com/ in the next few days and let us know what you think

Bye for now,

Kate
